ENSIGN JOHN WARD (1798-1878) NAPOLEON'S TOMB lithograph, printed on St Helena, 1837, 21 x 18.5cm and five various other small engravings including the SHEPHERDS RACE or ROBIN HOOD'S RACE... NEAR ST ANN'S WELL ABOUT 1 MILE FROM NOTTINGHAM, c1800 price six pence plain eight pence coloured and an engraving of the Puzzle-Brain Mountain published by Carrington Bowles (5)Ensign Ward (later Lieut Colonel) of the 66th Regiment and afterwards the 91st Regiment was posted to St Helena in 1821. He sketched Napoleon in life and whilst on guard duty at Longwood after his death. Ward was also present at both the Emperor's funeral and the exhumation of his body in the early hours of October 15 1840. He married at Thorpe, Norwich, in 1831, the novelist Harriet Tidy (1807-1873)
