TWO SALOPIAN ART POTTERY FLOWER ENCRUSTED PLAQUES

TWO SALOPIAN ART POTTERY FLOWER ENCRUSTED PLAQUES, C1880 one painted over glaze with butterflies, 35.5 and 36.5cm diam, impressed WA/B or oval impressed mark incorporating the name of the retailer C Hindley & SonsThe present plaque is the only known example bearing the shield mark containing the initials WA over B, presumably for William Allen of Benthall. It apparently predates the 1882 advertisement when he announced the name Salopian. The second plaque bears the very rare oval impressed mark.
