A MADELEY PORCELAIN BASKET, SPILL VASE AND POT POURRI VASE AND COVER, C18? spill vase 9cm hProvenance: (spill vase and basket) Freda and Colin Wharf.Illustrated: Turner 1908, p156, a spill vase of somewhat different shape in the collection of John Randall. Is this Randall's maroon' ground? Birds attributed to Randall when in old age. Note the backlit legs and shadows and the decoration carried over the rim. The basket is similar to a Sèvres oval basket and stand (marked for 1773 and Le Guay) in Christie's New York, 9th June 1979, the Christner Collection Vol III, lot 238.
