A COALPORT CERULEAN GROUND PART TEA SERVICE

A COALPORT CERULEAN GROUND PART TEA SERVICE, C1831 painted with pattern 2/717 by J Aston, teapot, cover and stand 21cm h, WT in gilt (11)A revived rococo part tea and coffee service of 2/717 painted with flowers by Jabez Aston then aged c30 and the first time his name appears in the Coalport Pattern Books. The several unusual gilt "WT" marks can hardly refer to Dr Wilton Turner (see lot 206). The gilding may be by William Treves, a contemporary of Aston. Later his name was first recorded as a painter against pattern 3/332, c1836-7.
