First edition, folio, two parts bound in one, both parts with separate titles and pagination, engraved portrait frontispiece to first part, folding engraved plate depicting the frontispiece of Cranmer's Bible, portrait of Wycliffe as frontispiece to second part, full panelled calf with buckram added over the spine. ESTC T95000, scarce. "The earliest printed edition of Wycliffe's version of the New Testament, only 160 copies .. were issued" (Darlow & Moule). Our copy has the added interest of having been presented by the author John Lewis - the front free end-paper has a manuscript note within a ruled square as follows: "The Gift of the Author to his Worthy Friend Mr Edward Steel of BROMLEY, Painter 1731".
