London, Printed for the Author, 1787. 6 volumes, 12mo, the half-title to each volume is signed by Elizabeth Steele, quarter calf, very worn, some spines missing parts of leather and with vertical splits. Despite the poor condition of the bindings, this signed set is rare. Following a dispute between Steele and her publisher, John Trussler, regarding money from the first edition, Steele (on the advice of Counsel) personally signed some of the sets of the second edition in order to deter piracy. In return, on release of the second edition, Trussler accused Steele of piracy herself. Our copy bears her signature in every volume.
