First edition, tall 4to, double page engraved county map, full page and smaller engravings in text, armorials, title and prelims loose, map with loss of paper to left-hand blank margin not affecting engraved area, some browning, chipping and corner/marginal loss to edges of some leaves (nowhere near text), p31/32 with crude repair affecting engraving to verso, some damp-stain to lower blank margin towards rear. Contemporary brown calf, worn, boards near-detached. Plus: BLORE, THOMAS - THE HISTORY AND ANTIQUITIES OF THE COUNTY OF RUTLAND. VOL I PART II [all published] CONTAINING THE EAST HUNDRED AND INCLUDING THE HUNDRED OF CASTERTON PARVA. Stanford, [1811]. Tall folio, 11 engraved plates (complete), contemporary half calf, rubbed, upper board with large black morocco and gilt title onlay. Despite the title, vol I part I was never actually published, nor indeed were any other volumes. Additionally the list of plates indicates 13 in total but with plates V and VIII being "delivered with a subsequent portion of this work" - so all copies have 11 plates only. A rare work, only 300 copies having been printed - 250 standard size at 4 guineas, and 50 large paper copies at double the price. Our copy measures approx 46 x 31 cm.
